Hello I have a problem with one of my sons. He seems to have a
problem seeing a spelling word in his mind and therefore has problems
with any word that doesn't follow the normal spelling rules. I am
trying to find some software that would help him out. The only problem
is that all spelling programs seem to be extremely childish. He is in
fifth grade and thinks that he will be made fun of because of the
bubbly graphics targeted for young children if anyone finds out he is
using that software. He is in the stage of his life where he wants to
be grownup but I can't find any software that will help with spelling
that is not filled with animals or cheesy graphics. Does anyone have a
recommendation?

I had the same problem with one of my kids. I found the solution to
the problem after searching forever on the net. There is software that
is targeted for any age at
http://www.spellingmadesimple.com
It has helped dramatically. He just runs through his weekly spelling
list once a day which only takes him a few minutes. Now he is acing
his spelling tests. It is a simple but great spelling software
program. I recommend it to anyone who has a child that is having any
spelling problems.

Hello Jane,

Try WordHacker which some parents use for children's Spelling Bee competition,
download it from http://www.wordhacker.com/en/download.htm

How to start here: http://www.wordhacker.com/help/help_toc.htm
You can enter words and pronunciations, I guess it would be usefull.
